Maryland Pediatric Stroke Legislation

On March 14, representatives of The Laney Jaymes Foundation will attend a hearing in Annapolis, Maryland, where a bill is being introduced to require pediatric stroke training to state educators, and to officially name May as Pediatric Stroke Awareness month in Maryland. We have been asked to testify at the hearing, and to share our experiences with Laney to help underline the need for this bill to pass. Dr. Lisa Sun Advocates for Pediatric Stroke Awareness

Laney’s and now her little sister’s neurologist, Dr. Lisa Sun, who helps run pediatric neurology at Johns Hopkins, has made it a professional focus to spread awareness about pediatric stroke to medical practitioners. In April, Dr. Sun will be presenting to a large number of her peers regarding the importance of ruling out stroke first as a diagnosis, before considering seizure and other diagnoses. We will provide additional detail as it becomes available.
